Challenge:
The design and installation of rills, bubbling water jets, mirror pools, planting and irrigation systems at Wembley Park. Our works were carried out alongside a number of contractors that were actively busy delivering other works associated with the wider scheme. We modified the layout of our irrigation pipeline to allow for the installation of a dog park.
Success:
Wembley Park is Quintain’s 85 acre development that includes the refurbishment of one of London’s most iconic music venues Wembley Arena (now known as The OVO Arena), new hotel accommodation, the London Designer Outlet and more than 8000 new homes with the majority being built to rent. The London Designer Outlet (LDO) opened in 2013 and it has over 70 shops, restaurants / coffee shops, a nine screen cinema and a calendar of activities that attract approximately 7 million visitors per year.
Ustigate were proud and delighted to collaborate with Quintain Ltd on Wembley Park; it is one of the UK’s largest developments of its kind. Ustigate contributed by designing and installing mirror pools amongst the busy London Designer Outlet as well as riveting rills, bubbling water jets, planting and irrigation systems in Wembley Park’s residential area’s.
Mirror Pools
The mirror pools are encased in high quality natural stone and finished with polished capping stones. The water management is a sustainable recirculation system enabling one body of water to be treated and recycled, ensuring water remains clean, crisp and clear. The water feature is located in a pedestrian area, where all neighbours appreciate the reflections of their local surroundings upon the pool’s surface and the soothing acoustic sounds derived from the water spilling over the edges. Ustigate installed the water management system in a secure, out of sight location. Coupled with all the nearby entertainment choices, the local blue and green infrastructure makes Wembley Park a great place to be.
Rills, bubbling water jets, planting and irrigation systems
Ustigate were delighted to enhance the residential gardens at Wembley Park with rill water features, bubbling water jets, and a beautifully landscaped courtyard complete with its own irrigation system. Wembley Park residential areas are near to the stadium, enabling many residents to enjoy a lovely view of Wembley Arch from their own back garden! All of the equipment to operate the water features and irrigation systems is accommodated in a subterranean plant room. Our irrigation systems hydrate efficiently keeping plants and lawns lush, green and healthy. Our scope of works also included plentiful planting and Ustigate is delighted to of contributed to the Mayor of London’s target to make London 50% green by 2050. In 2014 Quintain planted seven thousand shrubs and 1.2 km of hedging which led to Wembley Park becoming an award winning public realm improvement.
Wembley Arch:
With a span of 315 m (1,033 ft), Wembley Arch is the longest single-span roof structure in the world, and an iconic landmark in London.
Wembley Stadium now known as the OVO Arena:
The stadium was completed and handed over to the FA on 9 March 2007 and officially opened on Saturday 19 May, with the staging of the 2007 FA Cup Final. Eight days before that on Friday 11 May, the statue of the 1966 world cup winning captain Booby Moore was unveiled by his former England team-mate Sir Bobby Charlton.
